One of the last of the judges of the ancient Israel. A man of mythic strength and have a Nazirite vows. His work is to deliver Israel from the Philistines. His name means “Little Sun”.

He was a soldier in King David’s army. He was the husband of Bathsheba, and was murdered by order of David by having the soldiers retreat from him in battle.

He is the third king of Israel. The son of King David and Bathsheba. The builder of the First Temple in Jerusalem which housed the Ark of the Covenant. Best known as great in wisdom, wealth, and power.

ELIJAH

ELIJAH

Meaning "My God is Yahweh", came from Tishbeh in Gilead. He was a prophet and a wonder-worker in the northern kingdom of Israel during the reign of Ahab. Elijah had incredible faith in God. He loyally carried out the Lord's instructions and struck boldly in the face of enormous opposition. Elijah was filled with human frailties yet was used mightily of God. Elijah did not die. God sent chariots and horses of fire and took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind.

ELISHA

ELISHA

He was a prophet and a wonder-worker of the Northern Kingdom of Israel who was active during the reign of Joram, Jehu, Jehoahaz, and Jehoash. Elisha was the son of Shaphat, a wealthy land-owner of Abel-meholah. He became the attendant and disciple of Elijah. Elisha died at the end of a long illness. Such was the power of God that he had enjoyed in his life and ministry that even after his spirit had departed a dead body touching his bones was restored to life.

JONAH

JONAH

His name means “dove”. Jonah was the son of Amittai. Commanded by God to prophesy against the people of Nineveh. Best known as the prophet who was swallowed by a large fish.

DANIEL

He was a Jew who became a governor in Babylon. He exhibited great discipline and faithfulness to God. His name means “God is my Judge”.

AMOS

AMOS

Before becoming a prophet, Amos was a sheep herder and a sycamore fig farmer. He was from the southern Kingdom of Judah but preached in the northern Kingdom of Israel.

HOSEA

His name means "Yahweh has delivered". He was the son of Beeri, a prophet in the northern Kingdom of Israel. The relationship between him and Gomer parallels the relationship between God and Israel.

ISAIAH

He was a learned man of principle and integrity and of deep humility. Son of Amoz, and a prophet in the southern Kingdom of Israel. His name means “The Lord has saved”.

MICAH

MICAH

Micah, meaning "who is like Yahweh".He was the author of the Book of Micah. He was a contemporary of the prophets Isaiah, Amos and Hosea and is considered one of the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament. Micah was from Moresheth-Gath, in southwest Judah. He prophesied during the reigns of kings Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah of Judah.

NAHUM

His name means "comforter," and he was from the town of Alqosh. He was a very nationalistic Hebrew, and lived amongst the Elkoshites in peace.

DEBORAH

DEBORAH

Deborah was a prophet of the God of the Israelites, the fourth Judge of pre-monarchic Israel, counselor, warrior, and the wife of Lapidoth, according to the Book of Judges. The only female judge mentioned in the Bible. Deborah lived in the Mountains of Ephraim, between Ramah and Beth-El. She was wise and God-fearing, and the people flocked to her for advice and help.

ESTHER

The Feast of Purim is based on the story of Esther, a Jewish queen of the Persian King. Her cousin, Mordecai, raised Esther. When the King sought to find a new queen, he chose Esther.

MARY

MARY

Mary was a young, devout Jewish girl, a descendant of David (Matthew 1:16) who was engaged to Joseph of Nazareth. Her life changed forever when she received a visit from angel Gabriel and learned she was to be the mother of God’s Son, the Messiah.
